Le personalità del bridge

Lawrence King detto Larry è nato il 30 gennaio del 1945 a Dayton nell'Ohio ma è cresciuto a Eagle Rock in California.

Avvocato, è stato uno dei fondatori del World Teams Tennis e nel 1965 sposò la grande campionessa Billie Jane King che aveva conosciuto a Berkeley durante gli anni dell'Università e che divenne l'azionista di maggioranza della società nel 1984.

Assieme a Dennis Murphy, Larry fondò poi la Roller Hockey International che operò dal 1993 al 1999.

Nel 1987 divorziò dalla moglie e più tardi di sposò con Nancy dalla quale ebbe due figli e con la quale vive tuttora a Grass Valley una cittadina della California che sorge lungo il bordo occidentale della splendida National Tahoe Forest.

Grande appassionato di bridge, Larry promosse il bridge universitario in gran parte degli USA per molti anni ed è stato giocatore di partita libera fin quando un cancro alla prostata non se lo è portato via il 29 maggio del 2026.

Lawrence King, known as Larry, was born on January 30, 1945, in Dayton, Ohio, but grew up in Eagle Rock, California.

A lawyer, he was one of the founders of World Teams Tennis and in 1965 married the great champion Billie Jane King, whom he had met at Berkeley during his college years and who became the company's majority shareholder in 1984.

Together with Dennis Murphy, Larry later founded Roller Hockey International, which operated from 1993 to 1999.

In 1987, he divorced his wife and later married Nancy, with whom he had two children and with whom he still lives in Grass Valley, a California town located along the western edge of the beautiful Tahoe National Forest.

An avid bridge enthusiast, Larry promoted college bridge throughout much of the United States for many years and was an open-match player until he died of prostate cancer on May 29, 2026.
