Lawrence King, known as Larry, was born on January
30, 1945, in Dayton, Ohio, but grew up in Eagle Rock, California.
A lawyer, he was one of the founders of World Teams Tennis and in 1965 married the great champion Billie Jane King, whom he had met at Berkeley during his college years and who became the company's majority shareholder in 1984.
Together with Dennis Murphy, Larry later founded Roller Hockey International, which operated from 1993 to 1999.
In 1987, he divorced his wife and later married Nancy, with whom he had two children and with whom he still lives in Grass Valley, a California town located along the western edge of the beautiful Tahoe National Forest.
An avid bridge enthusiast, Larry promoted college bridge throughout much of the United States for many years and was an open-match player until he died of prostate cancer on May 29, 2026.
