Jan Penn Janitschke č nato il 14 ottobre del 1946 a Chicago e si č laureato in matematica e musica al Colorado College di Littleton, prima di dedicarsi a tutto tondo alla carriera bridgistica.

Giocatore di rispetto, insegnante, scrittore, ha iniziato a giocare con il fratello minore Craig Jianitschke che č scomparso nel 2001 dopo aver conquistato tre NABC. Assieme a lui ha vinto i suoi primi due NABC ed č arrivato quarto al Campionato Mondiale a Coppie del 1982.
Jan che per oltre 50 anni fu anche un eccellente ciclista, nell'ultima parte della sua vita fu tormentato dall'Alzheimer, ma riusciva comunque a giocare bene e suonare il piano ed il violino ancora meglio.
Sposato con Bonnie Smith, anche lei ottima bridgista, vincitore di 4 NABC, č scomparso nella cittā natale il 29 settembre del 2019.
Jan Penn Janitschke was born on
October 14, 1947 in Chicago and graduated in mathematics and music at Colorado
College in Littleton, before devoting himself entirely to the career of music.
Respect player, teacher, writer, started playing with his younger brother Craig Jianitschke who passed away in 2001 after winning three NABCs. Together with him he won his first two NABCs and finished fourth in the 1982 World Pairs Championships.
Jan who was also an excellent cyclist for over 50 years, was plagued by Alzheimer's in the latter part of his life, but still managed to play well and play the piano and violin even better.
Married to Bonnie Smith, also a great bridge player, winner of 4 NABC, he disappeared in his hometown on 29 September 2019.
