Timothy Neal Christopher Ireland è nato il 14 marzo del 1953 a Oakland, ha compiuto gli studi superiori al liceo di San Lorenzo e quelli universitari allo Chabot Junior College di Hayward.
Tim è stato un professionista del baseball che ha giocato anche in Giappone negli anni '80 prima di avere una seconda vita professionale come allenatore e manager.
Tim si è ritirato nel 2006 ed è un amante del bridge tanto che non è infrequente trovarlo seduto al tavolo verde nei vari campionati americani.

Tim was a baseball professional who also played in Japan in the '80s before having a second professional life as a coach and manager.
