Ernest  HEMINGWAY

 

 Ernest Miller Hemingway (Oak Park, 21 luglio 1899 – Ketchum, 2 luglio 1961) è stato uno scrittore e giornalista statunitense. Fu autore di romanzi e di racconti.

 Soprannominato Papa, fece parte della comunità di espatriati americani a Parigi durante gli anni venti, conosciuta come "la generazione perduta" e da lui stesso così chiamata nel suo libro di memorie "Festa mobile", ispirato da una frase di Gertrude Stein.

 Condusse una vita sociale turbolenta, si sposò quattro volte e gli furono attribuite varie relazioni sentimentali.

 Raggiunse già in vita una non comune popolarità e fama, che lo elevarono a mito delle nuove generazioni.

 Hemingway ricevette il Premio Pulitzer nel 1953 per Il vecchio e il mare, e vinse il Premio Nobel per la letteratura nel 1954.

Lo stile letterario di Hemingway, caratterizzato dall'essenzialità e asciuttezza paratattiche del linguaggio, e dall'ipòbole, ebbe una significativa influenza sullo sviluppo del romanzo nel XX secolo.

I suoi protagonisti sono tipicamente uomini dall'indole stoica, i quali vengono chiamati a mostrare "grazia" in situazioni di disagio (grace under pressure).

Molte delle sue opere sono considerate pietre miliari della letteratura americana.

Hemingway apprezzava il gioco del bridge bel quale lo affascinava particolarmente la licita.

Ernest Miller Hemingway (Oak Park, July 21, 1899 - Ketchum, July 2, 1961) was an American writer and journalist. He was the author of novels and short stories.

Nicknamed Pope, he was part of the American expatriate community in Paris during the 1920s, known as "the lost generation" and named by himself in his memoir "Mobile Feast", inspired by a phrase by Gertrude Stein.

He led a turbulent social life, married four times and was credited with various romantic relationships.

Already in life he reached an uncommon popularity and fame, which elevated him to the myth of the new generations.
Hemingway received the Pulitzer Prize in 1953 for The Old Man and the Sea, and won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954.

Hemingway's literary style, characterized by the paratactic essentiality and dryness of the language, and by the understatement, had a significant influence on the development of the novel in the twentieth century.

Its protagonists are typically stoic men, who are called to show "grace" in situations of discomfort (grace under pressure).

Many of his works are considered to be milestones in American literature.

Hemingway appreciated the beautiful game of bridge which particularly fascinated him bidding.
