Chris Bonington è nato a Londra il 6 agosto del 1934 ed è stato un pioniere dell'alpinismo britannico che ha dominato la scena delle ascensioni per decadi.
Chris ha completato molte ascensioni sia sull'Himalaya che sulle Alpi ma quella forse più famosa è stata la spedizione del 1975 sulla Faccia SO dell'Everest.
Nel 1996 è divenuto Sir per i suoi meriti sportivi.
Chris ha perso per malattia il primogenito all'età di 3 anni e nel 2014 anche la moglie Wendy. Si è risposato nel 2016 con Loreto.
Bonington era un giocatore d'azzardo di poker non professionale quando conobbe per merito dei suoi amici scalatori il bridge durante le ascensioni e ne divenne un entusiasta praticante.

Bonington was a not professional poker gambler when he discovered bridge through his climbing friends while climbing, and became an enthusiastic player lover.
