Alexandre Alekhine è la traslitterazione francese di Aleksandr Aleksandrovič Alechin che è nato a Mosca il 1 novembre del 1892 ed è stato uno dei più grandi scacchisti di ogni tempo.

Divenne campione del mondo nel 1921 sconfiggendo il mitico Capablanca, genio scacchistico precocissimo nella maturità i suoi risultati furono offuscati dagli effetti dell'alcolismo.
Nato da una famiglia agiata ebbe come primi insegnanti la madre, la sorella ed il fratello maggiore.
Trasferitosi in Francia nel 1927 ne prese la cittadinanza e difese molte volte i colori di quel paese.
Fu il quinto marito della nota pittrice Grace Wishard Eisler Peeke Bromley Freeman Alekhine un'americana-anglo-francese, anche lei forte scacchista che, nata il 26 ottobre del 1876 a Beverly nel New Jersey, morì a Parigi il 21 febbraio del 1956.
Nella sua ricca carriera vinse 4 ori ai Campionati del mondo e due ori e due argenti alle Olimpiadi.
Come molti altri scacchisti del suo tempo erano anche giocatori di bridge pur se mai forti.
Scomparve a Estoril (Lisbona) il 24 marzo del 1946.

Aleksandrovič Alechin was born in Moscow on November 1, 1892 and was one of the
greatest chess players of all time.
He became world champion in 1921 defeating the legendary Capablanca, a precocious chess genius in his maturity his results were overshadowed by the effects of alcoholism.
Born of a well-to-do family, his mother, sister, and elder brother were the first teachers.
He moved to France in 1927 and took his citizenship and often defended the colors of that country.
She was the fifth husband of the well-known painter Grace Wishard Eisler Peeke Bromley Freeman Alekhine, an American-Anglo-French, also a strong chess player who, born on 26 October 1876 in Beverly, New Jersey, died in Paris on 21 February 1956.
In his rich career he won 4 gold at the World Championships and two gold and two silver at the Olympics.
Like many other chess players of his time, he was also a bridge player, although not a strong one.
He disappeared in Estoril (Lisbon) on March 24, 1946.
